Unloc is looking for a freelancer to move forward the ‘Portsmouth: A Young Changemakers City’ project whilst a full-time member of Unloc staff is recruited. Below is an outline of the entire project but the freelancer would only be for the first few months, in which time we hope to see the toolkits developed, some Changemaker Day events taking place, and the processes for recruiting to the Changemaker Incubator programmes in place.
Project Outline
Managing the ‘Portsmouth: A Young Changemakers City’ project: October 21 – August 22
Development of two toolkits; on democracy in education for young people, and on education professionals.
A young persons’ toolkit with a mixture of resources to be presented digitally on unloc.online.
A mixture of information, knowledge, video based tutorials and accessible resources to use.
Three main sections developed around:
Introduction to making change
Making change at school
Making change beyond school

Introduction to democratic education
Understanding & implementing Student Voice
Democracy in curriculum, teaching and learning.
Planning and delivering Changemaker Days to young people in 5 local partner schools in the 21/22 academic year. (October 21 – January 22)
Liaise with partner school points of contact to agree and book in dates.
Work with the Operations Manager to assign staffing to support the events.
Build session plans, agendas and powerpoint presentations for the events.
Hold event briefings with staff who will be supporting on the day.
Liaise and book in guest speakers relevant to the Changemaker Days.
Collection of student feedback at the end of each event.
Planning and delivering two young leaders incubation programmes (Changemaker Academy) in the 21/22 academic year. Each incubator programme includes 4 training weekends for each cohort over a 6 month period with one weekend being a residential at a local activity centre. (January 22 – July 22)
Recruit x2 cohorts of 15 young people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Creation of promotional materials in partnership with the Marketing Manager.
Sending out of communications via email, text and phone to local partners and interested young people.
Creation of an easy to use online sign-up form to manage recruitment.
Completed consent forms signed and returned ahead of the first training weekend.
Booking of residential weekends for both Changemaker Academy Cohorts.
Identifying and agreeing fee with a local activity centre.
Risk assessment created and shared ahead of time.
Work with the Operations Manager to assign staffing to support the events.
Sending information and requirements ahead of time to Changemaker Academy cohorts.
Staff briefings for support staff who will be supporting the residential weekends.
Building content for the training weekends.
