You may have seen that Unloc has successfully launched Unloc.online, a new interactive e-learning platform, providing a series of online short courses designed to encourage students aged 11-19 to explore entrepreneurship, employability, leadership and career pathways from the comfort of their own home.
We are pleased to announce today the release of the first of a series of free courses – a Mental Health & Wellbeing course for young people which has been sponsored and created in partnership with Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
We are all beginning to understand that our mental health & wellbeing play an extremely important role in how much we enjoy and get out of life. If we do not look after ourselves, this can have a dramatic effect on our social lives, our education, our jobs and our overall happiness.
The free course, which is now live, aims to inform young people what the phrases ‘mental health’ and ‘wellbeing’ mean, to help them identify when things might not be feeling quite right and to show how to manage these feelings or seek support when needed. With all that is happening across the globe, we feel this is a great way for young people to take some time out and work on something that is not only really important but also endeavours to help them become more focused and effective in their studies and personal life.
This course has been made possible thanks to the partnership and sponsorship of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, who are committed to supporting young people’s wellbeing during this unsettling time. We have also welcomed contributions from Unique and Time To Change as we strived to build a resource which is genuinely helpful for young people and is more bespoke than generic information available online elsewhere.
Southern Health NHS Foundation’s Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, Sharon O’Callaghan commented “Mental and emotional wellbeing is a significant public health priority, particularly during these difficult times. Children and young people must be equipped to understand and deal with the often normal feelings and anxieties associated with change and the difficult times we are facing. This free resource will provide children and young people with immediate and early access to a toolkit of resources, to enable them to learn how to manage their feelings”
The course takes students through a range of different subjects associated with Mental Health & Wellbeing and encourages them to reflect on their own mindset and thoughts. It contains a wide range of resources from videos, quizzes, templates and prompts to support students to improve their health, happiness and sense of being.
This course is just the start of Unloc’s free courses so watch this space as more get released over the next few months!
