Our agile team, based at our central HQ in Portsmouth are looking for a dedicated individual passionate about supporting and developing young people’s entrepreneurial skills. Specific Responsibilities:
(with support and oversight from the Operations Manager)
Organise, plan and facilitate enterprise days and events
- To organise, plan and facilitate inspiring one-off enterprise days and events for schools, colleges and businesses. These fun-filled events are designed to allow young people to explore entrepreneurship and creative problem-solving. Young people will hear from an entrepreneur, take part in skills workshops and undertake a creative entrepreneurial challenge – all before pitching their team’s idea back to a panel of judges. This will involve liaising with key points of contact to build a tailored agenda, prepare resources for the events, brief the team in advance and be the lead member of staff on event days.
Organise, plan and facilitate inspiring speakers sessions
- To organise, plan and facilitate inspiring speakers sessions and events for schools and colleges. These sessions are inspirational talks followed by short workshop sessions to help inspire young people to consider self-employment as a career pathway. This will involve liaising with key points of contact to build an agenda, prepare resources for the session(s) and lead on delivering talks.
Organise, plan and facilitate bespoke enterprise events
- Organise, plan and facilitate bespoke enterprise events (with support from the operations manager) for individual education trusts, schools and colleges. This will involve building programmes that meet the individual need of the commissioning organisation.
Coordinate, plan and facilitate the Young Innovators Hub ‘Inspire’ Programme
- To coordinate, plan and facilitate the Young Innovators Hub ‘Inspire’ Programme (www.younginnovatorshub.co.uk). The ‘Inspire’ programme is an initiative made up of a series of events targeted at both primary and secondary school pupils. Each event takes place at the Young Innovators Hub, Unloc’s event space based at Portsmouth College.
- The aim of these events are to encourage and empower young people to develop their entrepreneurial and creative skills/mindset.
- You will recruit and liaise with participating schools, create fun and interactive events (previous events include: Tower Challenge, Chocolate Challenge, Earth Day Challenge & STEM Challenge), prepare resources and facilitate these sessions within the Young Innovators Hub.
Working in partnership with key sponsors of individual events
- Liaise and work in partnership with key sponsors of your programmes, including involving them in event planning, inviting them to attend relevant events and providing them with programme updates. This will include businesses, Local Authorities, schools and Community Interest Groups.
Providing regular updates to the Operations Manager and updating the Unloc contracts document
- To provide regular (written or verbal) updates to the Operations Manager on current progress and achievements of individual projects you manage, this includes using and keeping the Unloc contracts document up-to-date.
Providing additional support and opportunities for students
- Providing support and additional opportunities for young people you work with where possible.
To support other Unloc projects
- To aid other Unloc projects as and when required by the team (in consultation between you and your line manager).
Person Specification:
Qualifications
Essential: GCSE Maths and English at grade A*-C (or equivalent).
Essential: A-Levels at grade A*-C (or equivalent).
Desirable: Level 3 ICT qualification.
Desirable: A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent industry experience).
Experience and Knowledge
Essential: Previous work with young people.
Essential: Previous experience of entrepreneurship (in some way).
Desirable: Previous knowledge of the youth sector.
Abilities and Skills
Essential: High-level writing skills.
Essential: Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
