What do Steve Jobs, Brad Pitt, Oprah Winfrey, Ralph Lauren and John Lennon have in common? Besides being all famous names we have heard of!
They all either dropped out or flunked mainstream education and carved their own path on their own terms.
Now… We at Unloc strongly support academic education. It is a proven path towards economic, social and intellectual opportunity. You can blame the education system but not education itself. On the Forbes rich list 337 out of the 400 on the list all completed their chosen educational pathways but what about those 63 other people on that list? For them something about the educational system didn’t gel; didn’t fit with their style of learning.
All those big entrepreneurs we love to celebrate as high achieving successful people who didn’t stay in school… They never abandoned education; they abandoned the institution. What kept them going was their passion to learn, from anywhere and everywhere. Though they did not always know where exactly to go, their skill sets that would see them through to success had already started to develop.
If this Thursday you do not get the grades you expected or hoped for; then please do not lose heart as there are plenty of options still laid out in front of you; the first thing you should do is discuss your results with an advisor at your college. Websites such as www.thestudentroom.co.uk will offer a variety of resources and connections that will help you re-assess what is open to you.
No matter which path you choose, all are equally difficult and all will leave their mark. It’s how you face those encountered problems along the way that will shape you and determine your future.
In the end, it’s all about how you learn and apply that to the world.
