The Council of Portsmouth Students originally began as a small project being run by Portsmouth City Council. It soon grew into a thriving youth forum for cross-city debate between young people from all secondary schools in the city. The forum is youth led and has a democratically elected chair and executive and a wider membership of 15 schools and colleges. The aim of the forum is to be the city-wide voice of young people on education and school improvement matters.
In 2011, the City Council was no longer able to support CoPS so the young people involved at the time took the initiative to ensure that CoPS was able to continue. One of those young people is now Unloc’s co-founder and Managing Director, Hayden Taylor.
Unloc took over facilitating the forum in 2012 (then Question Me UK) and re-shaped the group as per the requests of the young people to what is now known as the Unloc Student Forums model. This model has been developed to ensure the forum is as active as possible and that it was a hub for sharing best practice between schools at a student level to lead to student-led whole school improvement across the area.
